ABSTRACT:

An efficient automotive security system is implemented for anti-theft using an embedded system occupied with a Global Positioning System (GPS) and a Global System of Mobile (GSM). The client interacts through this system with vehicles and determines their current locations and status using Google Earth. The user can track the position of targeted vehicles on Google Earth. Using GPS locator, the target current location is determined and sent, along with various parameters received by vehicle’s data port, via Short Message Service (SMS) through GSM networks to a GSM modem that is connected to PC or laptop. The GPS coordinates are corrected using a discrete Kalman filter. To secure the vehicle, the user of a group of users can turn off any vehicle of the fleet if any intruders try to run it by blocking the gas feeding line. This system is very safe and efficient to report emergency situations as crash reporting or engine failure.

PURPOSE:

The enviable use of this system is that it helps the owner in tracking the vehicle at a greater pace, and reduces the complexities comparing other system, besides being a cheapest alternative for anti-theft system as well.

DESCRIPTION:

Technology achieves success only when it meets every stratum of people. Apart from the various GPS tracking devices this paper introduces a first of its kind vehicle tracking system that works only using GSM technology, which would be the cheapest source of vehicle tracking anti-theft system. It is a small kit that consists of a GSM module and several other components. The system can be switched ON by an SMS from the owner, which in turn instructs the microcontroller to turn OFF the vehicle, receive information about the vehicle’s current location or more. Once this is done, the microcontroller stimulates the GSM module to forward the details of the nearest Base Station to the owner’s mobile via text message. The microcontroller which receives the delivery messages through the GSM module.

The time gap between successive messages to determine the exact location of the vehicle in a given area. The enviable advantage of this system is that it helps the owner in tracking the vehicle at a greater pace, and reduces the complexities comparing other system, besides being a cheapest alternative for anti-theft system as well.

The working is simple and just similar to carrying a mobile phone along with you and connecting to it from another device. Here we vary the working from that of the GPS which connects through the internet and then a user interface, by just displaying the information containing the location and other essential details through an SMS. First, the GSM anti-theft tracking system is put to task when it receives a message from the user, which is during a vehicle hijack. This triggers the microcontroller in switching OFF the engine or it stimulates the module in forwarding the location or both. The message forwarding is explained as given below: The Cell Broadcast Message (CBM) is common for an area having a particular Base Station (BS). This message passes on the information that contains the location as well to the mobiles that pass by a given area around that BS. It is known that a Cell is a region having the BS at its center. So a mobile gets registered to the BS when it enters that particular cell and acquires the message as soon as it enters the vicinity.

TECHNOLOGY:

GPS:

GPS (Global Positioning System) technology is used to find the location of any object or vehicle to monitor a child continuously using satellite signals. Three satellite signals are necessary to locate the receiver in 3D space and fourth satellite is used for time accuracy. GPS will give the information of parameters like longitude, latitude and attitude. With the help of these parameters one can easily locate the position of any object. In this GPS technology, the communication takes place between GPS transceiver and GPS satellite.

GSM:

GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) is the technology that underpins most of the world’s mobile phone networks. The GSM platform is a hugely successful wireless technology and an unprecedented story of global achievement and cooperation. GSM has become the world’s fastest growing communications technology of all time and the leading global mobile standard, spanning 218 countries. GSM is an open, digital cellular technology used for transmitting mobile voice and data services. GSM operates in the 900MHz and 1.8GHz bands GSM supports data transfer speeds of up to 9.6 kbps, allowing the transmission of basic data services such as SMS.

RESULT:

In this paper, a low-cost vehicle tracking and monitoring system is presented. The application included a transmitting module which contains an embedded system to combine GPS and GSM devices to retrieve location and vehicle status information and send it to the other stationary module; the second part is the receiving module which collects the transmitted information by SMS and process it to a compatible format to Google Earth to view the location and vehicle status online..
